An Arts Center, Imagined

Our community is rich with artistic talent, yet access to physical spaces is limited, with high costs and few options. As Girdwood continues to grow and develop, we feel these space limitations all the more.

Our goal is to bring to life a dedicated arts center in Girdwood: A comprehensive facility that will serve as a hub, and a dedicated space for creative exploration, culture and connection.

We have a unique opportunity to shape this development in a way that benefits everyone—providing room for art, collaboration, and wellness to flourish. Now is the time to act, as funding sources are available, and by taking steps today, we can secure these resources to bring this vision to life. This center will become a four-season destination, where locals and visitors can gather to celebrate the arts, explore new ideas, and find inspiration.

Beyond enriching the cultural landscape, this project also enhances the long-term economic sustainability of Girdwood and the surrounding Anchorage area. It will provide opportunities for artists, businesses, and residents to thrive together, while also serving as a legacy for future generations—a place to be proud of, where creativity and community intersect.

A warm and welcoming space

Upon entering, you find yourself in an open and airy room, with high ceilings supported by exposed beams. The walls are adorned with vibrant paintings, intricate wood carvings, and photography that capture the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. The scent of fresh pine mingles with the faint whiff of paint and clay. In one corner, a cozy café serves locally sourced pastries and coffee, while local musicians or poets often perform in the lounge area, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

A place for everyone

The art center is not only a gallery but a hub of creativity: there are workspaces for painting, movement, glass, metal, pottery, weaving, and woodworking, all bathed in soft, natural light. In the evenings, the center holds workshops, community gatherings, and art shows that attract both locals and visitors from near and far, all celebrating the intersection of nature and art.
